In his latest Power On newsletter, Bloomberg News’ Mark Gurman reveals that refreshed versions of the Apple TV 4K and HomePod mini have been ready for months — and are already being used internally at Apple Park — but the company is holding them back until the long-awaited LLM Siri overhaul arrives in iOS 27 this fall. Don’t expect radical redesigns. The updates are primarily about newer processors to better support Apple Intelligence and the more capable Siri experience. The Apple TV could see a small Siri Remote tweak, while the HomePod mini gets a chip bump (likely S9-class) for improved on-device AI performance. Both were originally slated to ship earlier but were delayed in tandem with Siri’s development. On the software front, Gurman notes that the iOS 27 Siri app will gain iCloud syncing across devices, making the assistant more seamless in the ecosystem. Meanwhile, Apple has kicked off early development on the next round: iOS 28 / iPadOS 28 (codenamed Bell) and macOS 28 (Poppy), internally dubbed “Boppy.” These 2027 releases are expected to be far more substantial than this year’s updates. This fits Apple’s pattern of tightly integrating hardware refreshes with major software leaps — especially around AI. With Apple’s smart glasses pushed to late 2027 (aiming to disrupt the entire eyewear market like the Watch did), the company is clearly focusing on polishing its core lineup and home ecosystem in the nearer term. MacDailyNews Take: These modest, but timely, updates could be the start of Apple breathing new life into its moribund living room and smart home offerings.
