Jessica Chastain via Instagram: ‎ I want to say how much I value my partnership with Apple. They’ve been incredible collaborators and I deeply respect their team. That said, I wanted to reach out and let you know that we’re not aligned on the decision to pause the release of The Savant. In the last five years since we’ve been making the show, we’ve seen an unfortunate amount of violence in the United States… These incidents, though far from encompassing the full range of violence witnessed in the United States, illustrate a broader mindset that crosses the political spectrum and must be confronted. I’ve never shied away from difficult subjects, and while I wish this show wasn’t so relevant, unfortunately it is. The Savant is about the heroes who work every day to stop violence before it happens, and honoring their courage feels more urgent than ever. While I respect Apple’s decision to pause the release for now, I remain hopeful the show will reach audiences soon. Until then, I’m wishing safety and strength for everyone, and I’ll let you know if and when The Savant is released. ‎ MacDailyNews Take: “We’re not aligned on the decision to pause the release of The Savant,” but “I respect Apple’s decision to pause the release for now.” Seem incongruous. Almost as incongruous as The Savant‘s lazy choice of villain. Imagine if The Savant instead had a realistic villain, ripped straight from today’s headlines or from two weeks ago? Then “the Savant” would actually be relevant, but, of course, that wouldn’t reinforce “THE MESSAGE.” Some language in the following video may be NSFW (depending on where you work): Being able to read the room is a pretty important skill for anyone, especially is your job is to product entertainment that will appeal to as wide an audience as possible. That means having your finger on the pulse of modern culture and understanding how people are feeling, what they like and dislike, and what issues are important to the them right now. Which is what Apple TV spectacularly failed with the release of their first trailer for “The Savant,” a new show about — and I kid you not — a middle-aged white Karen who uses online censorship and surveillance to tackle “right-wing extremism” in America (laughs). Congratulations, Apple, I do believe you’ve cracked it!
