Apple is targeting the first half of 2027 for the release of a second-generation MacBook Neo, according to Bloomberg News’ Mark Gurman. The refreshed budget laptop is expected to address key limitations of the original model through a processor upgrade, increased memory, and expanded color options. The current MacBook Neo, which launched in March 2026, uses an A18 Pro chip and 8GB of RAM. It is offered in Silver, Blush, Citrus, and Indigo finishes. Pricing began at $599 before rising to $699 in the U.S. in June amid broader industry memory cost pressures. Apple continues to provide education discounts. Gurman has previously indicated that the second-generation model will move to an A19 Pro chip, increase base memory to 12GB, and introduce new color choices. These changes are aimed at improving multitasking performance and better supporting features that benefit from additional memory, while keeping the device positioned as Apple’s most affordable laptop option. The update would arrive roughly a year after the original’s debut, maintaining the Neo’s role as an entry point into the Mac lineup below the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro. No further details on display, storage, ports, or exact pricing for the second-generation model have been reported. The first-half 2027 window places the release after the recently launched M6-powered iMac and entry-level MacBook Pro updates.
