Apple releases new firmware for AirTag 2

Apple introduced the new AirTag, now with an expanded finding range and a louder speaker. — Apple’s new AirTag (second generation), now with an expanded finding range and a louder speaker.

Apple this week released the first firmware update for the AirTag 2.

Following the launch of the AirTag 2 earlier this year, Apple has begun rolling out firmware version 3.0.45. The new update replaces the original 3.0.41 firmware that shipped with the device.

As spotted by MacRumors, the update is now deploying over-the-air.

To check your AirTag 2’s firmware version, follow these steps:

Open the Find My app.
Tap the Items tab.
Select your AirTag from the list.
Tap the name of your AirTag — the serial number and current firmware version will be displayed.

Apple does not currently provide a manual method to install the update.

The company has not yet published official release notes for version 3.0.45. However, as this is the first firmware update since the AirTag 2’s launch, it is expected to include bug fixes for issues discovered in real-world use, along with general performance improvements.

The AirTag 2 is priced at $29 for a single unit or $99 for a 4-pack.

MacDailyNews Note: Launched on January 26, the AirTag 2 features Apple’s second-generation Ultra Wideband chip for significantly improved tracking range, along with a speaker that is 50% louder than the original model.

The device also includes a new suite of industry-first protections against unwanted tracking, such as cross-platform alerts and frequently changing Bluetooth identifiers.
