A musical adaptation of the Apple TV+ series will premiere at the Nederlander Theatre this spring, with previews beginning April 4th and opening night on April 20th. The production is slated to run through September 6th. Caitlin Huston for The Hollywood Reporter: ‎ The show follows New York doctors Josh and Melissa, who go backpacking to fix their relationship and find themselves in the mythical town of Schmigadoon, where the townspeople won’t stop singing in the style of Golden Age musicals. The Apple TV+ series premiered in 2021 and ran two seasons, with the first mirroring the plot of the musical and the second extending to the next era of Broadway musicals, including Cabaret and Sweeney Todd. While it became somewhat of a cult classic, the show was not renewed for a third season. In the TV series, the two leads were played by Keegan-Michael Key and Cecily Strong. “Schmigadoon is a love letter to the Golden Age of movie musicals,” said producer Lorne Michaels. “It’s a little bit nostalgic and a lot of fun.
