According to Bloomberg News‘ Mark Gurman, Apple’s first foldable iPhone will feature four cameras—front, inner, and two rear—and will use Touch ID instead of Face ID. In his “Power On” newsletter, Gurman noted that the foldable iPhone will adopt Touch ID power buttons, similar to the latest iPad Air, iPad mini, and entry-level iPad models. The device will incorporate Apple’s second-generation C2 modem for cellular connectivity but will not include a physical SIM card slot. Gurman mentioned that Apple is testing black and white color options for the foldable iPhone. The foldable iPhone is expected to have a book-like design with a large inner display when unfolded. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo previously reported it will feature a 5.5-inch outer display and a 7.8-inch inner display with a “crease-free” design, achieved using a laser-drilled metal display plate to manage bending stress. Gurman added that Apple’s shift from on-cell to in-cell display technology should further minimize the visibility of the crease. Gurman expects Apple to launch the foldable iPhone in 2026, aligning with widespread predictions. MacDailyNews Take: It’s finally coming! Apple wasn’t first with fingerprint recognition, they were the first to do it right with Touch ID. Apple wasn’t first with facial recognition, they were the first to do it right with Face ID. Apple wasn’t first with contactless payments, they were the first to do it right with Apple Pay. — MacDailyNews, February 27, 2019 If and when Apple debuts a foldable iPhone, they’ll be showing the world how it should be done and what to copy going forward. As usual. — MacDailyNews, February 27, 2019 As with fingerprint and facial recognition, when Apple debuts a foldable iPhone, then foldable smartphones will have been done right. — MacDailyNews, January 17, 2019 Support MacDailyNews at no extra cost to you by using this link to shop at Amazon.
