Apple recently hit a speed bump with its AirPods Max firmware update, but has now smoothed things out. Just days ago, the company rolled out firmware version 7E99 alongside iOS 18.4, promising lossless audio support for the USB-C AirPods Max — a long-awaited upgrade for audiophiles. However, a bug in iOS 18.4 prevented users from downloading the update, prompting Apple to pull it abruptly. The AirPods firmware page was updated to list the release as “coming soon,” leaving users in limbo. Fast forward to now: Apple has resolved the issue and released firmware version 7E101. This update delivers on the lossless audio promise, enabling 24-bit, 48 kHz playback over USB-C, alongside ultra-low latency audio for creators and gamers. Available as of April 3, 2025, the firmware is rolling out to USB-C AirPods Max users paired with devices on iOS 18.4 or macOS 15.4. MacDailyNews Take: Fingers crossed that this one takes!
