TDK Corp., a key supplier of iPhone batteries to Apple, will launch an upgraded version of its most advanced battery technology this year to address the increasing power consumption of AI features in mobile devices.

Mass production of these third-generation silicon-anode cells is scheduled to begin in late summer, according to CEO Noboru Saito. Yuki Furukawa and Takashi Mochizuki for Bloomberg News: ‎ Silicon batteries, which are more complex to manufacture but carry more energy than conventional ones, have already been embraced by most major Chinese phone makers and Saito sees further growth ahead. Hong Kong-based subsidiary Amperex Technology Ltd., the leading provider of mobile batteries globally, first introduced lithium-ion cells with silicon anodes in 2023 after years of research and fine-tuning.
