This will significantly improve the device’s tracking range and accuracy. Mark Gurman for Bloomberg News: ‎ [Apple’s] next AirTag will be getting a new ultrawide-band chip on par with the one introduced in the iPhone 15. That will considerably increase the range of the new AirTag, meaning it will be easier to find any items [to which] you’ve attached it. Right now, the AirTag can be located with Precision Finding from about 10 to 30 meters away, depending on conditions. The new model should triple that by using the next-generation ultrawide-band chip, I’m told. MacDailyNews Note: All iPhone 15 and later models incorporate Apple’s second-gen Ultra Wideband chip, the U2 which is made using a 7nm chip-manufacturing process (vs. the U1 chip’s 16nm process) and enables Precision Finding and works reliably from 60 meters. ‎ MacDailyNews Take: Up to 90 meters, even 60 meters, range would be a significant upgrade for AirTag (meaning we’ll likely be upgrading our cadre of AirTags at that time, too)!
