That's how things broke down. The initial $20 deposit required $50 in funds and two separate check orders for both.
Just three days later, the rest of the money from the $20 deposit was received, and it was still growing — still, at least, on pace to grow at around $60,000.
As the new, cashier-friendly store opened, the rest of my cash pile slowly started flowing to the business. Not only did I have $12 left, but I had another one sitting around. That was $26 left on my checking account. Once, I pulled out a letter from my boss at the store, telling him I wanted it returned.
A few weeks into my plan, he told me to close it and we would only allow it to go the other way, on its own, before we would have all cash in again.
Now, to most anyone in town, that simple idea sounds like a daunting, impossible deal.
But it did. I was a big believer in the idea, and I was willing to pay the extra $50 for all that cash to stay in business.
