It's 2025 tomorrow, and for now, it's time to look back at what we've done in 2024 and forward to what we plan to do in 2025. To start, thank you for subscribing to this newsletter. Choosing to get BWT in your inbox weekly is a big deal for us, and we're thankful beyond belief.   I can say that we are still here today, writing, thriving, and uplifting voices because of everyone who shared and donated to our campaign in November. Thanks to everyone who continues to support us monthly as subscribers, we have a plan in place. We are here because of YOU, and I don't say that to be cheesy.    In 2024, But Why Tho? expanded with more festival coverage and preview events than ever before. For our film team, that meant covering Sundance, SXSW, Cannes, TIFF, and Annecy. This took our already global team of writers to the next stage of being accredited at film festivals across the world. As for our video game team, we attended PAX East, PAX West, SGF, and even The Game Awards and were excited to expand our video game coverage to include previews from media events of some of the largest games of the year.    We also talked to some amazing creatives and talent. For games, we had the honor of interviewing Final Fantasy XIV's Naoki Yoshida, the creator of Shadow the Hedgehog Takashi Iizuka, and the woman behind Kay Vess, Humberly Gonzalez, to name a few. In Film and TV, we spoke to this generation's Sauron and Galadriel (Charlie Vickers and Morfydd Clark), Longlegs director Osgood Perkins, and dug into 9-1-1 with Lou Ferrigno Jr. We even spoke with NFL player Jamaal Williams about his deep love of anime.    If you told me in 2017, when we first started our flagship podcast, that this is where we would be, I wouldn't have believed you. Hell, if you had told me in 2018 when we first spun up the website, I would have laughed. But this has always been the goal we have pursued relentlessly and with more resiliency than I ever thought I was capable of.    If you asked me to describe myself and our team of writers and editors in 2024 in one word, I know what I would choose. Tenacity. We have always punched above our weight class, and this year, we showcased that we're going toe-to-toe now. This past year, we dug deep, kept going, and refused to let "no" deter us from moving forward. We are a group that is as tenacious as we are talented.    Truthfully, 2024 has seen some of our largest achievements, thanks to how much each reader has supported us. We're hoping to do even more in 2025. In November, we put out a call for support. It was our last push to try and fund in a year that has decimated the media landscape. You answered. With your support, we secured funding through March of 2025, a huge accomplishment.   We're dedicated to continuing to be a place for writers to share their perspectives and unique voices. Our goal has always been to be an outlet dedicated to meaningful critique of pop culture, and we're hoping to bring you even more.    So here is what's coming next! Dedicated to conversation, we will be digging deep into topics affecting the world of entertainment every week, and a rotating panel of guests will join us from week to week. Patrick Seitz for Investor’s Business Daily: ‎ Ives said he expects tech stocks to rise 25% in 2025 as Wall Street and investors digest “a less regulatory spiderweb” under the administration of President-elect Donald Trump. Also, stronger artificial intelligence initiatives in the federal government should give the sector a boost, he said. Ives identified 10 stocks that he called “tech winners for the AI revolution in 2025.” AI chip powerhouse Nvidia (NVDA) leads the list, followed by cloud computing giant and OpenAI partner Microsoft (MSFT).
