Sen. Pat Toomey, R-Pa., joined with Sen. Martin Heinrich, D-N.M., in calling for the resignation of President Donald Trump, The Times reported on May 4. That's during a debate over whether Trump's firing of FBI Director James Comey was the right thing to do and not a violation of the Constitution.
"This action does not undermine public trust in political institutions, contrary to the Founders' principles," the senators wrote. "President Trump did nothing that obstructs a democratic process."
Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., also called the decision "unreasonable," CNN reported.
"We support a strong and independent judiciary," Manchin said.

Hagan added that the House would do "anything" by keeping the "tough questions" under the Freedom of Information Act.
"Do you think it's possible for government agencies and government contractors to have any power over what you say or do in comments, as an executive order?" he asked, in response to questions about the proposed spending cuts.

An angry Hagan took to Twitter to denounce what he called a "dangerous piece of fluff" that was written by Rep. Ted Poe (R-Fla.) on the House floor, saying Poe had said "the only thing that's right in this country is equality and fairness for all."
As the storm has subsided, Hagan has taken a far more moderate position against the measures passed by the Senate to protect national security and national security.
According to a Senate summary on Senate website, a bill introduced this year by Rep. Markwayne Mullin (R-Texas) would end protections that protect private firms from the extent of hacking and that cover financial transactions.
"That bill would require U.S. federal agencies and departments to immediately create more cybersecurity officers," the summary says. "In its place, DHS would also authorize the creation of a National Security Agency, U.S. Department of Homeland Security, National Security Agency

If Republican candidates are up to the task of building their campaign, Mr. McConnell has repeatedly pointed to a campaign strategy he devised with John D. Rockefeller, who was the founder of the Democratic Party when John D. Rockefeller left.
And Mr. McConnell, a former lobbyist and chief legal counsel to the chief federal investigator for the CIA before leaving, has said that he will use his experience with Mr. Rockefeller to steer the senator in the right direction on issues with which Mr. D. Rockefeller will have the greater influence.
"We're not going to give up on his integrity," Mr. McConnell tells the Senate Appropriations Committee.
But it does not take long for Mr. McConnell to get at his opponents. It has been nearly ten months since last month's budget deal, which would have cut benefits for millions of poor and children with college degrees as well as for the poor and vulnerable in the United States. When the sequester was announced two weeks ago, Mr. McConnell made clear no such goal was achieved.

There is no such thing as a "national security" person.
To the rest of us it was a joke. Everyone knew what was being said and how absurd it was. I saw Trump speaking this way on TV, in foreign capitals and at various protests. He called for the killing of an American citizen, calling for the destruction of American infrastructure. He called for shutting down American businesses from foreign companies because they were selling their products to his country. He insulted Chinese people. He insulted Jews. He insulted gays. He insulted all the other "lots of people" for being Chinese and Americans. No one even thought to ask him what he thought of the Middle East. He made no effort to be helpful in any way, but he was the main target and they were not even asked. I remember I was in that office two or three days before the election when a pro-Trump aide was walking down the hallway where I was sitting so I could hear a lot of the usual stuff. It was just so out of control. When the news broke that Trump was not running, I started laughing loudly. It was like, he said something horrible.

When I spoke with Hillary on her email server at the White House last week, she said her use of the private server would be "very, very, very different." "I'm not sure if it would be a good idea, too," she said, and added that the reason for using classified information had nothing to do with Hillary Clinton or her private server. "It's not my intent to cause harm by using personal or business email any more, and I can tell you that it is not what we're trying to do."
As a lawyer and a politician, Sanders is expected to use her email server as a reason to avoid any legal action against her, even if she has no reason to. But if the emails she emails are private, the prospect of legal action raises serious concerns about the rules.

We are in danger of an America where people like Mr. Trump are emboldened by the violence in Charlottesville, Virginia, so his opponents will not be scared to say so, while he is being mocked on Twitter as a fascist with the threat of the death penalty.
A big political issue in this election season is whether the media will have to use the bully pulpit of the presidency to get away with its bad behavior.
